Great news! Texas Electrical Exams will be based on 2020 NEC as of Nov 1st! TDLR had intended to adopt the 2020 NEC code as of September 1, 2020. But because of COVID-19, the date has been pushed back. The 2020 NEC code will be adopted as of November 1, 2020 instead.
Per TDLR’s Website:
The effective date will be November 1, 2020 (delayed from the proposed date of September 1 2020 due to COVID-19).

2020 Update Summary
TDLR is adopting the 2020 NEC code by November 1st & the exam for the electrical license will be based on it. You can take your test now until October under the 2017 code but after that, you will need to update to the new code.
