McKinney leaders launched an accelerated plan to expand EV charging across businesses and public spaces, aiming to match surging electric vehicle demand, reports DigitalJournal.

The city adds Level 2 and ultra-fast chargers while local contractors take on more wiring, installations, and grid integration work. Walmart’s McKinney location already features 400 kW chargers compatible with modern EV models.

Meanwhile, electrical firms step up to ensure installations stay code-compliant and scalable. The city also taps grants and federal funds to support charger rollout and backup power integration.

By expanding charging access, McKinney positions itself as a forward-looking city in the EV transition. Electricians who master EV charging infrastructure will likely see more demand and opportunity in this growing market.
