Frequently Asked Quetions

Here are some frequently asked questions about our seminars in Texas for the electrical exam. Send us a message if you have more questions!

Prepare. Pass. Excel

Q. What are the dates of the seminars?

A.  The best way to stay up to date on the seminar locations and dates is by subscribing to our newsletter.  You can also check back periodically to see the dates and locations posted on our home page.

Q. Can I just pay at the seminar?

A.  Registration and tuition is due at least 1 week prior to the seminar.  We can no longer accept same-day payments in order to start the seminar on time. You can register 24/7 online here.

Q. I was wondering what things I should highlight on the code book?

A. The instructor will provide sections, articles and tables to pay special attention to for the exam.  You'll also receive handouts with articles to highlight for the exam.

Q. When will the new testing format take place that will use the new code book?

A.  The new versions are usually adopted by TDLR the year of, or the year after the new version of the code book rolls out. To get the latest update review page 1 of the Candidate Information Bulletin from PSI Exams.

Q. How many seats are available?

A.  In order to keep our seminars small for individual attention, we have no more than 30 seats available.  Some seminars will have up to 25 seats depending on the size of the meeting room we rent. To ensure that we don't sell out, we recommend you register at least 1 week before the seminar date.

Q. Do I have to apply with TDLR first to attend the seminar?

A.  You do not have to apply with TDLR first to attend the seminar but we recommend you do apply asap so you can take your test after the seminar.  We believe taking the test no more than 3 months after the seminar gives you the best chance at passing the exam the first time.

Q. What is your pass rate?

A.  All of our students pass the exam.  Some of them take it twice before passing depending on the type of license they are testing for and depending on if they completed the homework material.  If you are having trouble with any material after attending the seminar, we encourage you to contact the instructor for a review tutorial before you take the exam.

Q. I've paid for class but have not received class location nor start time.

A. Please allow up to 24 hours for your registration confirmation.  If you have registered but have not received the confirmation email, please check your spam/junk folder.  If you don't see us in there, please contact us so we can reply with the confirmation email.

Q. I am looking to take a class for the Journeyman/Master exam. Please let me know what steps I need to take to pass the exam.

A. To pass the exam you should attend the two days of the seminar from beginning to end.  You will be given homework to do for two weeks.  The homework is designed to help you practice what you learned.  Doing these two things will help you pass the exam.

Q. Do you give the tests there at the seminar?

A.  The exams are administered by PSI Exams.  At the seminar you will learn how to pass the exam.  You will have to sign up with PSI Exams to schedule your test.  You can download the Candidate Information Bulletin from PSI Exams.  This has their contact information along with rules and procedures for scheduling and taking the exam.

Q. Is the Journeyman & Master class held together?

A. Yes, the journeyman and master class are held together.  The subject areas for both exams are the same differing in the number of questions issued and complexity of calculation questions.  The master exam prep students will use master exam prep practice exams.  The journeyman exam prep students will use journeyman exam prep practice exams

Q. Can I use an older version of the code book for the test?

A. For best results you should use the current version of the code book for the test.  PSI exams will allow you to bring the older version but the exam and the seminar are based on the current version.  Consider that some test questions will be based on code changes from the older version, so you are better off investing in the current code book.

Q. Where is the class held at (address) so I can find lodging near it?

A. The address is not published online until after registration, this helps us prevent drop-ins which we have to turn away if our class is sold-out.  We provide addresses in your confirmation email as soon as you register.  If you need to reserve a room prior to registering for the seminar, please contact us for the name of the hotel, address and contact phone number, we will be happy to help.

Q. What do I need to bring to the seminar?

A. You will need the following materials:

  • Different Color Highlighters,
  • Calculator (battery, large buttons)
  • 5 subject notebook
  • Straight edge/ruler
  • Pens
