Q. I am looking to take a class for the Journeyman/Master exam. Please let me know what steps I need to take to pass the exam.

A. To pass the exam you should attend the two days of the seminar from beginning to end.  You will be given homework to do for two weeks.  The homework is designed to help you practice what you learned.  Doing these two things will help you pass the exam.

Q. What do I need to bring to the seminar?

A. You will need the following materials:

  • Different Color Highlighters,
  • Calculator (battery, large buttons)
  • 5 subject notebook
  • Straight edge/ruler
  • Pens
  • Softbound NEC book
  • If you have taken the exam and failed, bring your PSI Score Report

Q. Do you give the tests there at the seminar?

A.  The exams are administered by PSI Exams.  At the seminar you will learn how to pass the exam.  You will have to sign up with PSI Exams to schedule your test.  You can download the Candidate Information Bulletin from PSI Exams.  This has their contact information along with rules and procedures for scheduling and taking the exam.

Q. Do I have to apply with TDLR first to attend the seminar?

A.  You do not have to apply with TDLR first to attend the seminar but we recommend you do apply asap so you can take your test after the seminar.  We believe taking the test no more than 3 months after the seminar gives you the best chance at passing the exam the first time.

Q. What is your pass rate?

A.  All of our students pass the exam.  Some of them take it twice before passing depending on the type of license they are testing for and depending on if they completed the homework material.  If you are having trouble with any material after attending the seminar, we encourage you to contact the instructor for a review tutorial before you take the exam.

Q. What if I don’t pass the electrical exam?

A. If you do not pass the electrical exam after taking our seminar, you can come back to another seminar for a refresher for no additional fee.  This guarantee expires 6 months after your first seminar.

At the instructor's discretion, if you provide proof that you have been attempting to pass the exam for 6 months and have failed, we can extend the guarantee past the 6 months to give you more time.

If you took the exam for the first time after the 6 month guarantee, the guarantee will no longer be available.

Q. Can I just pay at the seminar?

A.  Registration and tuition is due at least 1 week prior to the seminar.  We can no longer accept same-day payments in order to start the seminar on time.

Q. Can I register over the phone?

A.  We can take registrations and tuition over the phone.  There is a 3.5%  service fee in addition to the tuition.

Q. How many seats are available?

A.  In order to keep our seminars small for individual attention, we have no more than 30 seats available.  Some seminars will have up to 25 seats depending on the size of the meeting room we rent.

To ensure that we don't sell out, we recommend you register at least 1 week before the seminar date.

Q. Is the Journeyman & Master class held together?

A. Yes, the journeyman and master class are held together.  The subject areas for both exams are the same differing in the number of questions issued and complexity of calculation questions.

The master exam prep students will use master exam prep practice exams.  The journeyman exam prep students will use journeyman exam prep practice exams.

Q. Is there any discount for multiple students?

A. If you have 5 or more people attending the same seminar, please email us so we can provide you a discount.  TexasElectricalExam@Gmail.com

Q. Do you have any hotel discounts for students?

A. Sadly, we do not receive a discount from hotels we rent the meeting rooms in.

Q. Where is the class held at (address) so I can find lodging near it?

A. The address is not published online until after registration, this helps us prevent drop-ins which we have to turn away if our class is sold-out.  We provide addresses in your confirmation email as soon as you register.

If you need to reserve a room prior to registering for the seminar, please contact us for the name of the hotel, address and contact phone number, we will be happy to help

Q. When will the new testing format take place that will use the new code book?

A.  The new versions are usually adopted by TDLR the year of, or the year after the new version of the code book rolls out.

Texas adopted 2017 in September 2018.

Texas will adopt 2020 in September 2020.

Q. Can I use an older version of the code book for the test?

A. For best results you should use the current version of the code book for the test.  PSI exams will allow you to bring the older version but the exam and the seminar are based on the current version.  Consider that some test questions will be based on code changes from the older version, so you are better off investing in the current code book.

Q. I was wondering what things I should highlight on the code book?

A. The instructor will provide sections, articles and tables to pay special attention to for the exam.  You'll also receive handouts with articles to highlight for the exam.

You can browse our blog posts on the topic here.

Q. What time is the seminar held in?

A. The seminars are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Saturday and Sunday.  We strongly recommend you attend both days from beginning to end for maximum results.

Q. I've paid for class but have not received class location nor start time.

A.
